Inspired by the nearby Bonomi monument, the work is dedicated to the man of letters and science Napoleone Dalla Riva, who died at a young age and is here represented allegorically. Above the marble base the mother of the deceased clings weeping to her son’s herm and on the other side a winged genius holds out a crown. The frame of the sarcophagus is adorned with plant and animal motifs, symbols of life and death and an expression of naturalism.
