Donato Barcaglia

Pavia 1849 – Rome 1930

Donato Barcaglia was born in Pavia on the 10th of January 1849. He studied drawing and nude courses at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera and learned the techniques of sculpture from the master Abbondio Sangiorgio, establishing himself as a sculptor from the age of seventeen.

Very famous since his youth, at thirty he directed a workshop specialised in the production of replicas of his works, in great demand all over the world. A refined and elegant artist, he created numerous sculptures and funerary monuments, most of which are preserved within the Monumental Cemetery of Milan. He died suddenly during a trip to Rome on the 4th of June 1930.
