Francesco Modena

Bovolone 1882 – Mestre 1960

Francesco Modena was born in Bovolone, in the province of Verona, on the 1st of August 1882. After attending the Academy of Fine Arts of Verona, he presented his works at the city biannual earning acclaim from critics and the local press.

He continued to be active, producing some excellent funerary monuments for the Monumental Cemetery of Verona, making important portraits such as the bust of the poet Berto Barbarani. His other funerary works are preserved in Lecco cemetery.

In the 1920s he created the War Memorials for the fallen for Bovolone and Roverchiaretta. He then moved to Venice, where he continued his work as a sculptor, garnering numerous awards. He died in Mestre on the 22nd of November 1960.
