Zannoni Rancani monument

AUTHOR: Ugo Zannoni

The plaque, mounted on the wall of the Canossa chapel, was sculpted by Ugo Zannoni to commemorate the tragic death of the cousins Giuseppe Zannoni and Marcello Rancani, precipitated from the scaffolding during the fresco work in the church of Monteforte d’Alpone. The scene is characterized by a strong pathos: in the bas-relief two angels collect the lifeless bodies of the two artists who embrace tenderly while they are taken to the sky and, on the left, portraits of the two artists still alive are reproduced in a medallion.
