Camuzzoni monument

Monumento Camuzzoni

The monument is dedicated Giulio Camuzzoni, great protagonist of the cultural, economic and political life of Verona in the second half of the nineteenth century. He was mayor of the city for sixteen years after the annexation of Verona to Italy and to him we owe the industrial channel that takes its name and the construction of the embankments to defend against the flooding of the Adige river. The mausoleum is all based on the material signs of the works to which the name of Verona’s renewing mayor is linked. At the top, in the background of the niche, the herm of Camuzzoni stands out, placed on a shelf decorated with a gothic leaf. On the sides, in slight relief, you can see the building of the canal taking the name of the deceased and the walls of the Adige. At the bottom right, the agriculture genius is sitting on a sheaf, while on the left, to represent Verona and his gratitude, there is a young woman with an Arena-shaped clasp in her hair sitting on a ribbon embroidering the name of the mayor.
