Bonuzzi monument

AUTHOR: Egidio Girelli

The sculptor Egidio Girelli proposes a variant inspired by the theme of the lamentation over the dead Christ, with the figure of Mary slumped over the body of Christ lying lifeless in the niche in the center of the rectangular gray stone aedicule. The two figures, precious and refined, are carved in a block of white marble and the chromatic contrast between the two materials reiterates the function of eternal shelter of the niche. The monument is completed on the left by a bronze lamp that attenuates the rigidity of the forms and the drama of the subject, introducing in the work an element of hope linked to the symbolic meaning of light.
